History
From fortified castle to "monastery castle"
This fortification, which originally served defence and refuge functions, has been owned by Vorau Abbey since 1616 and was rebuilt into its present form around 1700. It houses six chapels and the parish church, the former knights' hall, with an imposing set of frescos by the abbey's resident painter, Johann Cyriak Hackhofer.
