Shaping European Cultural Heritage Together
The Castle Road is an international network of castles, palaces, monasteries and historic sites. Together, we preserve, present and develop our shared European cultural heritage at the historic crossroads between East and West.
As a member, you become part of a committed network that promotes cross-border cooperation, cultural exchange, research, education and sustainable cultural tourism.
We welcome new members who share our vision and wish to play an active role in the further development of the Castle Road.

Who Can Become a Member?
Full membership is open in particular to:
- castles, palaces, monasteries and historic sites open to the public,
- municipalities and associations of municipalities,
- museums and cultural institutions,
- tourism organisations,
- educational and research institutions,
- other institutions that support the aims of the Castle Road.
In addition, associate membership is available for companies, and supporting membership for natural and legal persons. Honorary membership may be awarded for outstanding services to the Castle Road.
Benefits of Membership
As a member, you benefit from:
- an international network in Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and other European countries,
- joint marketing and increased visibility,
- presentation on the website as well as in publications and promotional materials,
- participation in European projects,
- the development of joint tourism products,
- the exchange of experience and best-practice examples,
- educational, research and cultural projects,
- joint events, symposia and excursions,
- an active role in shaping the further development of the Castle Road.
Membership Criteria
Membership of the Castle Road is open to institutions that support the aims and values of the network and wish to make an active contribution to the further development of the route.
Full members should in particular:
- own, operate or represent a castle, palace, monastery or another historically significant cultural site open to the public,
- be committed to the preservation, maintenance and presentation of cultural heritage,
- recognise the aims and statutes of the Castle Road,
- actively support cross-border cooperation and the European idea,
- be willing to take part in joint projects, events and marketing activities,
- observe the quality standards and corporate design of the Castle Road,
- make an active contribution to the further development of the network.
Depending on the type of institution, tourism organisations, municipalities, museums, educational and research institutions as well as other institutions supporting the aims of the Castle Road may also become members.
Rights and Obligations
Members are invited to play an active role in the network, take part in events and help shape the development of the Castle Road.
Full members have voting rights in the General Assembly and democratically participate in the strategic development of the network. At the same time, all members commit to supporting the aims of the Castle Road, complying with the statutes and contributing to the positive development of the network.
How to Become a Member
- Download and complete the membership application form.
- Submit the application and the required documents to the Castle Road office.
- The Executive Board reviews the application.
- The Executive Board decides on admission in accordance with the statutes.
- Upon admission, the new member officially becomes part of the international network.
Membership Fees
The amount of the membership fee is determined by the General Assembly in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Castle Road.
The current membership fee is EUR 400–800 per year.
